In many job applications, you will often see the question ‘how computer literature are you?’, or you might be asked about specific computer programmes and packages you can use. But just how important is it to be computer literate?

A basic level of literacy is going to be very beneficial in this day and age, where everything is online. You will probably be using internal CRM systems, online documents and servers to help in your everyday work. However, it is not necessarily essential that you have used specific programmes and suites before. Companies that are recruiting should think about a person as a whole and whether they will fit into the team, as opposed to just looking at their previous experience. If somebody is smart, diligent and eager to learn, then they will be able to learn how to use different kinds of software in part of their training for the role.
